Cavener News

Bryan and I previously have documented nothing. From the last nine years we have no photos, no journals, nada. But now we're turning over a new leaf and we're hoping to use this as baby books for Jill and Peter.

The Cookie and the Cheerios

We went to my friend LeeAnne's house Saturday night for a Christmas Party. There was a plate piled high with beautiful Christmas cookies and after Jill ate a nutritious meal of crackers (groan) she zeroed in on the cookies. Jill freaks out if she eats sugar so I let her have just one cookie. As we were getting ready to leave Jill asked for another. Thinking it would soften the blow of our departure, I said, "OK, you can take one more, but you can't eat it until you get in the car." Jill chose her cookie and held it patiently while I put on her coat. Then we went into the living room and discovered Bryan wasn't quite ready to go. Jill held that cookie without taking a bite for 15 minutes while Bryan finished his drink and a conversation he was having. Another friend of LeeAnne's was joking around with Jacqui and Anna and saw Jill holding her cookie. He said, "Wow, that looks like a great cookie. I wish I had a cookie!" Jill took off running for the cookie tray and silently placed a cookie on his lap. She is a very good girl.

Tonight Jill was eating a bowl of Cheerios. She got
impatient with her spoon and started plunging her hands into the milk to grab the cereal. We said, "No, Jill, we eat cereal with a spoon, not with our hands." She started using her spoon again. Soon I heard her calling, "Come on. Coooome on!" as if she was calling a puppy. I looked over to see her intently chasing her last couple of Cheerios around the bowl with her spoon. Those last ones are really hard to get! The bad news is that Jill got from Bryan whatever gene it is that compels a person to drink the leftover milk in the cereal bowl. Gag!

Are you suggesting that there exists people in the world who do not drink the leftover milk? That's a crazy thought.

I knew someone would call me on that! That milk is warm and has mushy cereal dust in it. Yuck!

Eric, I can totally picture you and Bryan surrounded by discarded fast food bags while drinking technicolored Froot Loop milk in an OSU apartment. That's pretty much how it was, right?
