Two Milestones
This is my first real time post. Hooray!
Jill had two major milestones this week. The first was Baby's First Cold, not a very glamorous thing. On Saturday Jill got her first RSV vaccination. This shot is given to preemies to protect their lungs during RSV season. One of the side effects can be an upper respiratory infection, and she got one! By Sunday afternoon her nose was running like crazy. Every time Jill sneezed she shot out a plume of green snot. We went to BJ's Sunday evening and I picked up an 8 pack of tissues. I had to rip into them minutes later to mop up my adorable little bio hazard. The other problem with Jill's cold was that it made it hard for her to get to sleep. She has gotten so that she loves to suck her thumb when she's put down for naps and at night, but with her nose so congested she couldn't have that comfort. I'd say she's about 90% recovered now and I'm glad to see her happy again.
Jill has just started to really show affection. She has been smiling and goofy for about four months now, but she just started something I LOVE. When she's feeling cuddly and I'm holding her she'll plug her thumb in her mouth and swing her head onto my shoulder in a big dramatic arc. Then she stays there for hugs. Jill is so different now. She is very aware and intentional. She wants her toys, the phone, the remote. She wants to stand up rather than sit down. And when she lets us hug her it's because she wants the hugs. And she's also a pincher. She pinches us out of affection and excitement. It's an Italian thing.
And finally the biggest news....drum roll drum roll drum roll. Jill sat up on her own today for about 10 seconds before tipping over! It was awesome. Earlier in the weekend Bryan and Jill were working on her sitting and she tipped over and hit her head, pretty gently, but she still hit it. She screamed like crazy and made a face we call "rectangle mouth." The kid has to toughen up if she's going to be a professional athlete. OK, it's more likely she'll be a mathlete.
