Cavener News

Bryan and I previously have documented nothing. From the last nine years we have no photos, no journals, nada. But now we're turning over a new leaf and we're hoping to use this as baby books for Jill and Peter.

Not Sure if I'll Ever Catch Up!

It's been such a busy spring and summer with a lot of big changes for our family.  Of course, I picked that time to totally dump the blog and write about none of it!  I'm hoping I'll go back, maybe even this morning, and write a little about the closing of the kids' preschool, Peter's third birthday, our move, and Jill's first day of kindergarten.

But for now, I need to get over some of my blog-guilt and write down a couple of cute things they have been saying and doing.

Just now, the kids headed up to Jill's room to play animal doctor.  Jill said, "Peter do you want to bring in the pets, or do you want to be the doctor?"  Peter replied, "I want to be the baby animal and you can take care of me."  Then he walked on all fours to her room.

Yesterday, Peter had been a long time in the bathroom and I called to him, "Buddy, are you still on the potty?  Do you need some help?"  He yelled back from the bathroom, "I'm in here, Mom!  I'm in the black shirt!"  As if I might not recognize him amid a sea of three year olds in my bathroom.

Peter has graduated from the "baby bucket" swing on the playground.  I asked him the other day, "Do you want me to push you on the big boy swing?"  He answered with an angry scowl, "No!  I want you to push me on the big girl swing!"

And finally, it has been a month of firsts for Jill.  She lost her first tooth (pictures coming) and had her first sleepover away from home.  On the playground she has crossed the monkey bars successfully and zipped down the fire pole for the first time--and now she's learned to whistle!  The little girl is so excited about it!  She hasn't perfected the art--I'd say her blow-to-whistle ratio is somewhere around 4:1--but anytime she manages a squeaky note, she beams and jumps up and down.  A couple of nights ago she whistled alone in bed for about 20 minutes after we tucked her in and suddenly exclaimed, "I can whistle!  I am so happy with myself!"
