Peter's Song
Around here the kids have nicknames on top of nicknames. As a baby Jill was called Jill Pickle, and then the nickname for that was Pickle Pie, and somehow that evolved to Pooky which has stuck. As a unit, we refer to the kids as Peter Butter and Jilly and we sing the peanut butter and jelly song to them with their names fit in. It's pretty generic, but Peter is called Buddy. And it's not just, "Hey, Buddy, let's get ready to go," but rather, "Can you get Buddy's coat?" By and large, it's replaced his actual name. And as we naturally created a nickname for that nickname, we called him Buddy Holly and I sing him Weezer's Buddy Holly song all the time.
Woo-ee-oo, (you) look just like Buddy Holly,
Oh-oh, and (I'm) Mary Tyler Moore.
I don't care what they say about us anyway.
I don't care 'bout that!
Peter and I were running errands together on Tuesday morning and the song came on the radio. Peter had never heard the actual song. His eyes popped open wide with excitement and he yelled, "IT'S MY SONG!"
Our morning of errands ended at BJ's. As we walked in he said, "Can I see the ipad?" I can see he is going to join his dad and Auntie Becky as the family technophiles.
