Cavener News

Bryan and I previously have documented nothing. From the last nine years we have no photos, no journals, nada. But now we're turning over a new leaf and we're hoping to use this as baby books for Jill and Peter.

Jumping

Last weekend (well two weekends ago), we went to Columbus to visit Bryan's family. While we were there we had Jill's car seat arranged in the center of the backseat. She has never liked it when we stop the car on a trip and says, "Ready?" repeatedly to get us moving again. But with a clear view of the windshield, she figured out that is was the stop lights slowing us down. We started counting with her to keep her calm at the intersections saying, "Oh, red light! Let's count, one, two, three... OK, green light!"

She's been counting at red lights ever since saying, "Ready, onetwothree?" whenever we stop. We've conducted this experiment for about 10 days and it's interesting to note, since I'm impatient with red lights myself, that it usually only takes 17 seconds for a light to turn green. I guess I should chill out and slow down. The things your children teach you...

Jill was really tough on the plane ride home. She is totally done with riding as a lap baby. As I held her in my lap for take off and landing she kept straining against me growling, "I get up. I GET UP!"

We woke her up really early for our 6:00AM flight and she was not in a good mood when we got back to Haverhill. She was standing in the kitchen demanding Cheerios when she scrunched down and leaped off the floor. Bryan and I erupted in cheers, "Yay! You did it! Great jumping!"

Jill has been trying to jump for months but while she has talked a good game, "Jump! I jump!", she has never been able to get both feet off the floor until now. It's an awesome milestone and now she's jumping all over the place when she's excited or angry. We got a great tape of it. Maybe someday we'll post it. I know, we're terrible about that!

Now for news about Peter... That's the name we've chosen for our baby boy if you haven't heard yet. Things have been going well with the pregnancy. This little guy is really active and likes to kick. In fact he's kicking right now. I think Jim Connerney might be onto something predicting a future field goal kicker for the Cavener family!
