Cavener News

Bryan and I previously have documented nothing. From the last nine years we have no photos, no journals, nada. But now we're turning over a new leaf and we're hoping to use this as baby books for Jill and Peter.

That was grr-eat!

Yesterday we had the pleasure of celebrating Alex Hirth's 4th birthday with him. The party invitation described a "Bouncy Party." I pictured a giant bouncy castle full to the brim with kids of all sizes and a trip to Lawrence General for a broken arm--but the party wasn't like that at all!

The place had about 6 small bouncy rooms so the kids could spread out. Jill was usually able to find a space for herself or to share with other toddlers her size. Jill had a blast though she was much more cautious than the other kids.

After an hour of bouncy play, the kids had cake, sort of watched while Alex opened presents, and then had a dance party. The dance party was hilarious. The lights were turned down and there was a disco ball. The kids danced to "Let's Get Loud" and "Mambo No. 5." Some of those kids could really move! Jill mostly stood on the edge of the dance floor marching in place and clapping her hands.

We had a good time catching up with Nick, Andi, Alex, Sarah, David, and Ian. On the way home Jill said, "Yay! Happy Birthday! That was grr-eat! I like music! They turn off the lights!" She said those same few sentences over and over again for like 20 minutes.

The rest of our day was pretty good, too. We're spending the weekend at the beach so when we got back to my Mom's we put Jill right down for her nap knowing she was going to wake up angry after eating birthday cake for lunch. After her nap, once she was fed and calm, we took her to the beach to play with her cousins. It was pretty cold on the beach but the water was really warm. Jill spent a couple of hours walking between our beach chairs and the shore line where she would dig in the sand with her cousins. She required very little chasing. It was so nice!

All told my sister spent about five hours on the cold beach with the girls. She was about to pack it in when we showed up. Jacqui smiled and said to Bryan, "You bought us some extra time!" She's a smart one.
