Cavener News

Bryan and I previously have documented nothing. From the last nine years we have no photos, no journals, nada. But now we're turning over a new leaf and we're hoping to use this as baby books for Jill and Peter.

By Jove, I Think She's Got It.

Afraid of bringing on the whammy, I have been hesitant to write this post.  But here it is.  Jill has been in big girl underpants since last Monday!  Once I stopped caring, she asked to use the big potty and never looked back.  Jill went to church, school, and on our weekend errands in her underpants.  We had our first public restroom experience at Sears in the Burlington Mall and she did great.  We have even stopped putting her in diapers at night.

The only problem is that Jill seems to try to hold it in for too long and that stresses me out.  When she wakes up dry in the morning (after sleeping 12 hours) she refuses to get on the potty right
away.  She tools around the house for an hour or so eating breakfast or whatever before she goes. She gets very angry when I try to prompt her to go, everything has to be on this little girl's terms!  I swear I use the bathroom three times as often as she does.

If anyone has any tips on this last issue, I'll gladly accept them.  I take her jelly beans out of the cabinet and put them in sight, and we have even upped the ante for number two.  She now gets two jelly beans for tinkles and a half inch piece of a Nutty Bar for pueys.  The Nutty Bars have been very motivational!  We'll phase all that out in a couple of weeks.

I wanted to add one other story about the cutest little game Jill is playing right now.  She sits on the stairs and pretending to ride in an airplane.  She says, "Mummy, will you ride on the airplane with me?  Would you like a cookie?"  Then she reaches into an imaginary bag and hands me a cookie.  She also packs peanut butter sandwiches (coasters) for Grammie and Pa on the flight.  It's always Grammie and Pa, and they are always eating coaster peanut butter sandwiches.

OK, I lied, I have two stories.  Here's the second.  We went through the Burger King drive through on Saturday.  When we pulled up, Jill turned to her window and said, "I'd like chicken nuggets and milk, please."  She had such a polite and expectant look on her face while she thought she was talking into the speaker.  Bryan and I had to stop ourselves from laughing, because her behavior was perfect, just very unexpected!  Sometimes (believe me, not always!) she is such a little lady.  Just look how she has her legs crossed in her pink slippers!

Good job, Jill! I love the airplane story. We miss you all so much. I can relate to the nutty bars. They are the favorite bribe of my seventh graders. I guess you never outgrow nutty bars. Can't wait to see you guys!
Lots of love to all!
