Peter is Six Months Old

Peter is a little wild man at six months.  He loves to play on the floor and he drags himself around to his toys.  He is getting close to sitting on his own.  I help him practice by putting the boppy behind him with a toy wedged between his knees.  Then he reaches for the toy and plays with abandon until he loses his balance and rolls to the floor.  Don't worry, I spot him.

Peter had his six month well baby visit last week.  He measured 28.5" long (96th %) and 18 lbs 3 oz (55th %).  He has fallen off his growth curve for weight which could be because he is getting more active and we need to step up his intake of solid foods.  I had been casually introducing all of the stage ones, giving him two servings a day but going slowly because the solid food makes him constipated, but now I'm going to make sure he gets three meals and a snack in addition to his nursing.  I'll just have to get some prunes into him, too.  That should be fun, Jill hated prunes!

Peter's sleep is getting a little better.  I am so glad we didn't try to sleep train him last month because he needed those extra late night feedings.  I am very sad to be coming to a time when I can't nurse him exclusively anymore.  My baby is growing up.  I look at his chubby wrists and his scrunchy nose and know that this precious baby will soon be gone to me.  I know that he will grow into a boy who is even more precious, but I ache for the loss.

Sheesh, I need to get it together!  Who is this sentimental sap?  I'm going to try to pull myself together, but I thank God for the blessings of my family.  We are so blessed!

Here are some of Peter's glamour shots from the last month.  I had been taking them faithfully to enter him in Regis and Kelly's Beautiful Baby Contest.  When I logged in I saw that the official rules state that the baby has to be six months old as of January 12, 2009.  Peter missed it by two weeks! Those eyelashes certainly should have earned him his college tuition!  I feel personally let down by my best friend, Kelly Ripa.
