Cavener News

Bryan and I previously have documented nothing. From the last nine years we have no photos, no journals, nada. But now we're turning over a new leaf and we're hoping to use this as baby books for Jill and Peter.

Saturday's Child

As the nursery rhyme goes, "Saturday's child works hard for a living..."  Peter is a Saturday child and he really is the hardest working baby in the business.  I remember rarely seeing Jill practicing a new skill, she would just do it when she was ready.  Peter on the other hand works.  This week he began to sit by himself reliably and to army crawl forward.  He works SO HARD at the army crawl and he is very strong and fast.  He can cross the living room floor in a couple of seconds which means it's time to do another round of baby proofing.  We had a nice 6 month reprieve during which we knew Jill wouldn't put anything dangerous in her mouth and Peter was immobile.

Bryan, Nana, and I took the kids to Orlando for a few days.  We had a great time.  The weather was sunny and warm but with a cool breeze.  Jill loved playing in the pool with a little German(?) girl she called "Kara" and she LOVED meeting Mickey and Minnie.  She was so happy.  We managed to last six hours in the Magic Kingdom with the two kids which was so much better than I expected.  Peter was very content to ride around in the stroller taking naps here and there.

The nights on the other hand, were not so good.  Peter's crib was creaky and he woke up every two hours during our three night stay.  Bryan and I were so tired that we each drank about seven cups of coffee a day and we only just recovered from the lack of sleep.

And boy did we recover!  My mom took stock of the exhausted disheveled mess that I was last week and GENEROUSLY offered to give Bryan and I an overnight away.  We went to Portsmouth yesterday and walked around in the warm sunshine, had coffees, dinner, and stayed at the Hilton, all child free.  I had a smile on my face from the minute we arrived and it's still there.  It was really nice to be carefree for an evening, carrying nothing with us but wallets and phones.  I was surprised at how emotional I was at leaving Peter though.  It was my first night away from my lovely baby.

But the good news is, we came home to find Peter, Jill, and Nana all in good condition.  I feel like my batteries are recharged for the first time in, well, seven months!  Thank you, Mom, I am a lucky girl!

Here are my favorite pictures from our trip to Orlando.
