Cavener News

Bryan and I previously have documented nothing. From the last nine years we have no photos, no journals, nada. But now we're turning over a new leaf and we're hoping to use this as baby books for Jill and Peter.

Three Year Old Girl

Jill turned three on April 3rd!  Yay, Jill!  On her birthday she brought hoodsie cups to school for her class and then I treated her to a chicken nugget meal for her birthday lunch.  Bryan surprised us by coming home to have lunch with us and that was a special treat, too.

Jill's actual party was last Saturday.  We postponed it a week so Grammie and Pa could be there for it.  The party was a bouncy party and 20 of Jill's friends came to celebrate with her.  Twenty crazy kids!

Jill wanted a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse themed party so her cake and the favors all had Mickey Mouse on them.  As the party began Jill happily jumped in the bouncy houses, but about 10 minutes into the party she somehow fell on her nose and was the first to cry.  She sat on my lap with an ice pack for a while and eventually ventured to play with some hula hoops.  She would not bounce!  At her bouncy party!  Her cousins arrived just then to save the day.  Jill happily followed Jacqui and Anna back into the fray, jumping and chattering with them carefree.  Thank you, Jacqui and Anna!  Just another reason to love those girls.

I can't believe what a nice group of kids we had.  When it was time to eat pizza and cake they sat quietly and orderly at the table eating like it was their jobs.  Then they danced under the disco ball which was hilarious.  Jill's moves have definitely improved since she went to Alex Hirth's party last year.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from the party...

Notes about three year old Jill:  Jill tells great original jokes.  If during lunch I make up a silly song about a ham sandwich, Jill will chime in with the next verse about mustard.  Speaking of mustard, Jill will eat anything that she can dip in it.  Jill loves to help around the house.   She likes to sweep, mop, dust, make peanut butter sandwiches and peel hard boiled eggs.  If I ask her to bring me a bib for Peter she says, "Oh, sure," and dashes off to get it.

Jill loves her teachers and Gail and Susan, the women who run her classroom at church.  She knows our weekly routine and on Tuesday night will say, "Are we going to see Gail and Susan tomorrow?"  She's right.  Most nights once we've put the kids to bed, Bryan and I marvel at what a good sweet girl Jill is.

I love bouncy parties! Sounds like you have a perfect party for Jill. I can't believe she is 3 already... That just reminds me how long it has been since we have seen you! She looks so grown up. Do you have a thumb sucker on your hands??? We are really struggling with Payton.

Oh yeah, she's a thumb sucker! Jill only sucks her thumb at night and if she's sick or overtired. I haven't even considered how we'll break the habit. What have you tried with Payton?

Right now we are at the same place as you are with Jill. Payton will only suck if she is holding her favorite blanket, which now we don't let out of her room. I am holding nail polish and piercing her ears over her head with no luck so far... I was a thumb sucker and I know from experience how tough it is to quit. It is SO frustrating as a parent though!!! she has seemed to do better since we don't let the blanket out of her room. Payton knows we don't want her to suck because she will ask us "Mumma, can i have my blanket???" If you find a good remedy, let me know!
